The Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index the electricity used for one bitcoin transaction could power 10 US homes for a day. Bitcoin mining uses more energy than Ireland or Nigeria, and that number is predicted to grow. As more and more crypto currencies go main stream the power consumption is predicted to double in the next few years. That will translate into higher prices for residents and businesses across the globe, as new electricity supply might not be readily available.
